INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SUBJECTS:
Reading: Our class will be learning a great deal about taking notes, summarizing, making inferences, reading for detail, point of view, and author's purpose. We are reading the trilogy series called Shiloh. We will cover Wordly Wise lesson 9 this week. The unit 9 Wordly Wise vocabulary test will be given tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31.
Spelling: We will cover Sort 19 this week. The pattern for this week is to sort and spell words beginning with a-, de-, and be-. The Sort 19 spelling test will be on Friday, February 3.
English/Writing: Grammar and writing will be incorporated into the new reading series. We will be writing a great deal in our class. We will focus on how to write persuasive essays the third nine weeks. I will be emphasizing writing in complete sentences on tests, using more descriptive language, writing paragraphs, etc. We will also be working daily on English grammar. There is usually a DOL/grammar test every Friday. The DOL test will be this Friday, February 3. Some awesome educational websites for students to practice grammar and writing are www.harcourtschool.com, www.funbrain.com, and www.chompchomp.com.
Math: We will cover chapters 14-16, and 18-19 the third nine weeks. Specific skills that will be covered are fractions, decimals, measurement, and data analysis. Math quizzes are usually every Friday. For extra practice with your child, visit the website www.mathplayground.com for great math games!
Science: Mrs. Rademacher teaches science to our class. She is currently teaching the unit on Space. There is a test on the phases of the moon tomorrow, January 31. A studyguide was given. The students have a Constellation project due on Friday, February 3.
Social Studies: We are studying the causes of the American Revolution. We are covering chapter 7 in the book.
