JANUARY 28, 2012

Dear Parents,

We had a busy week in our classroom.  We are studying about penguins and winter in literacy centers.  In math we are learning about money, and in phonics we are focusing on short vowels.  In science we are learning about our five senses, and in social studies we are learning about where we live.  Please make sure that your child knows his or her address and phone number.

Important upcoming events include Still Math Night at Publix on Dallas Highway at the West Cobb Marketplace.  This event will take place next Thursday, February 2 at Publix from 6:30 to 8:00.  It will include many fun math activities for kids.

JANUARY 21, 2012

Dear Parents,

Our class had a good week.  We are doing some great reading and writing projects in literacy centers.  In math we are beginning our chapter on money, and in phonics we are focusing on the letters Y and Z.  In social studies we are learning about our community, and in science we are studying about the water cycle.

Please continue to read the book-a-day books with your child each night.  The children are doing a great job on their reading.

Important upcoming events include the 100th day of school, which will be next Friday, January 27.  We will be having a special snack and doing some fun math and writing activities on this day.

JANUARY 13, 2012

Dear Parents,

We had a busy week in our classroom.  Everyone seems to be ready to get back to school after the break.  We are learning about polar animals and winter weather in literacy centers.  In math we are studying the numbers 10 through 30, and in phonics we are focusing on the letters V and W.  In science we are studying about solids, liquids, and gases.  In social studies we learned about Martin Luther King.

Holden was chosen to be our Terrific Kid for this month.  Holden is a great student and we are proud of him!

Please note that report cards are being sent home today.  The report is yours to keep.  Please sign the enclosed signature card and return it in the envelope.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Please remember that Monday, January 16, will be a school holiday.

Dear Parents,

Our class had an exciting week.  We have been doing some fun holiday projects and the kids had a good time.  In math we are continuing our chapter on the numbers 10 through 20, and in phonics we are focusing on the letter V.  We learned about magnets in science, and in social studies we learned about holiday customs.

We would like to thank all of the parents who sent in food and helped with the class holiday party.  The kids really enjoyed it.

Please note that a Holiday Reading Challenge was sent home with your child on Wednesday.  Please encourage your child to read and complete this challenge over the winter holidays.

Please remember that Winter Holidays will take place from December 23 through January 9.

The past week was a busy time for our class.  We completed our Holidays Around the World unit and the kids did a great job.  In math we are working on teen numbers, and in phonics we are focusing on the letters T and U.  In social studies we are learning about national symbols, and in science we are studying about motion and gravity.

Important upcoming events include our class holiday party, which will be Tuesday, December 20, from 10:30 - 11:30.  Winter Holidays will be December 23 through January 9.

Important upcoming events include the PTSA Pancake Breakfast, which will take place December 10, from 8:30 - 11:30.  Our class Holiday party will be on December 20 from 10:30 - 11:30.  Winter Holidays will be December 23 through January 9.

It has been a fun and busy week for our class.  We read some great Thanksgiving books during literacy centers.  In math we are studying about 3D shapes, and in phonics we are focusing on the letter M.  We learned about the Pilgrims in social studies, and in science we finished our unit on the day and night sky.  Everyone had a good time at Pilgrim and Native American day.  We would like to thank all of the parents who helped with this event.

Our class had a busy week.  We are continuing to learn about the Pilgrims and Native Americans.  The children are working hard on their Native American outfits.  In math we began our chapter on geometry, and in phonics we are focusing on short vowels.  In science we learned about the phases of the moon, and in social studies we learned about the Thanksgiving holiday.

Important upcoming events include Kindergarten Pilgrim and Native American Day, which will take place next Friday, November 18.  This event will be in the cafeteria from 8:00 - 9:00.  Also, please remember that November 21 through 25 will be school holidays.

Dear Parents,

  Our class had a good week.  We are learning about Pilgrims and Native Americans in literacy centers and the kids are doing a good job on their projects.  In math we are finishing our chapter on sets, and in phonics we are focusing on the letter K.  In social studies we are learning about why we celebrate Thanksgiving, and in science we are studying about the day and night sky.  On Thursday, we had a Wellstar nutrition class which was very informative.

Tobe was chosen to be our Terrific Kid for this month.  Tobe is a great student and we are proud of him!

Important upcoming events include November 8, which will be a student holiday.  Also, please remember that the kindergarten students will be having Pilgrim and Native American Day on Friday, November 18.  This event will take place in the cafeteria from 8:00 - 9:00.
