Last Week of School Reminders

Please remember to keep ASP and lunch counts up to date.

Many students still have not turned in a self-addressed stamp envelope.  Two stamps are needed on the envelope or one forever stamp for report cards to be sent.

Here is a list of our last week celebrations that was send home in the Thursday Folder last week.

Monday : Game Day Bring a board game to school. It is also mixed match day.

Tuesday: Sports/Club day wear your favorite team's t -shirt or uniform.

Wednesday; Silly Sipppers/ Robe day. If you purchased a yearbook, please bring it to school  on this day.

Thursday: Twinkie Day-- Pair up with a friend or friends to dress alike.

Friday: Wear your class t-shirts to school and remember no lunch boxes or bookbags.

Welcome SUMMER and don't forget to READ!!!!

Brunson" Bulletin

ACADEMIC NEW

Our class worked so hard on the CRCT last week.  I am very proud of all of the effort each student put forth.

In science we are finishing up with our life cycle unit.  We have studied about the life cycle of plants, mammals, frogs, and insects.  Remember the baby picture project is due May 6th.  Students should send in three baby pictures showing their growth throughout the years.  That form went home last week.

Our social studies unit was finished up  several weeks ago.  Our class had a blast learning about all of the famous Georgians.

In math we are finishing up with our unit on multiplication and showing  numbers in different ways.  This unit also covers 3digit subtraction which can be very difficult for some students.Remember to practice those multiplication facts over the summer, as well as addition and subtraction.

Mrs. Korzenok worked so hard being our room parents.Many  thanks for all of her hard work and support throughout the school year. She will be contacting you about sending in  treats for  the last week of school.

  Mr. Sills did such a super job with our AR this year.  A big thanks to Mr. Sills.

Hats off to the following students who have reached their AR goal this year: Tahj Anderson, Grace Tarnoff, Khory Reid, Alissa Louissaint, and Nathan Wellborn.  Several other students are very close.  Look for their names in the next blog

ACADEMC NEWS

In reading we are working on our inferencing skills.  We are also reviewing all other reading skills: cause-effect, main idea, locating information, drawing conclusions, making predications, problem - solution, and retelling and summarizing a story.   Please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes each night and returning AR books to school the next school day.  They do have time during the school day to read AR books.

Please remember that Sitton Spelling is about application skills and applying these skills  to their writing each day.

In math we are working on multiplications facts to 9.Next week we will be introducing basic division.. We will also be working on word problems and reviewing for CRCT skills during math class.

In social studies for this 9 weeks we will be studying consumer choices.     We are learning about making good spending choices and what is a want and need.

Remember that we have only one week after Spring  Break before  CRCT testing begins.  Please make sure students are on time for school . We need to have students back in the regular routine quickly.  We will be reviewing all skills that we have covered so far this year.  Many students need pencils, erasers, and crayons for class.  Remember there are tasty Chick-fil-la biscuits sold on Monday mornings between 7:15- 7:50. I enjoy one every Monday morning.

Brunson's Bulletin

ACADEMIC NEWS

 

In reading we are working on how to summarize a story. Students were also given book report forms  last Thursday.  They are to check out a fiction book on their AR level and complete the directions that were sent home. The form requires a parent and student signature.  All forms  and requirements should be return on February 10th.

In math we are still studying place value .

In social studies,we had such a great time learning about Martin Luther King and Jackie Robinson. Our last Georgia hero that we will be studying is Jimmy Carter. 

In science we have begun our new unit on space.  First we will learn about stars and their differences.

I had a wonderful time meeting will all of you last week.  That you for support  in  our classroom.

Valentine information will be given out next week. Students need to remember to include their book buddy when filling out valentines.  We will decorate  valentine bags in the classroom.  No materials are needed from students to decorate bags.  Students are allowed to bring in candy with their valentines.

ACADEMIC NEWS

In reading we are finishing up with our tricky animal tales and we are now writing our own.  You will get to view those at conferences.  You will be amazed !!  We continue to review main idea, and we are working on cause-effect relationships.  After reading about Martin Luther King Jr this week, we were able to state cause- effect events of the civil rights movement. Students did a fantastic job on this activity.

In math we have started our new unit, fractions and place value to the thousands. Continue to work on basic subtraction and addition facts and money making change.

In social studies we are studying our Georgia hero, Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in the civil rights movement.

Thank you parents, for all of your donations  toward our holiday party.  Mrs. Korzenok worked  hard supplying ornaments and coming into the classroom to help put them together. Thank you also for the wonderful gift certificate and gifts.  Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.  I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful holiday.

Mr. Sills, our AR parents, wants me to remind you that students need to be taking AR tests every week.

Please remember to supply your child with pencils!!

Must Ministries is collecting can goods at our school.  Just remember to place your cans in the container in the front lobby. 

Our 2nd grade PTA program is coming up soon.  More information will be coming to you later.

Please remember to return conference forms as soon as possible.  I look forward to meeting with all of you at conferences.

Forms for the Six Flags reading program was sent home last week.  Those  forms are not due until Feb 17.

ACADEMIC NEWS

 In reading we continue to work on folk tales.We have learned that smaller animals can outwit their stronger rivals. Next, our class will write their own tricky animal tales. Remember to read over the holidays.  READ READ READ

In math we will complete Unit 2 this week. Please remember to practice subtraction and addition facts over the holidays.

In science we are completing our energy unit. Remember to discuss energy saving tips at home during the holidays.

Students need to remember to write in their winter journals over the winter holidays. Journals will go home with students on Dec  18. Have fun writing.  Our expression skills have really grown this year.Please remember to enhance this skill by reminding your child to write over the winter holiday.

Our hard working room parent, Mrs Korzenok, has given her time and skills so that our students will have several ornaments to adore our tree. Please remember to send in items for our class party.  A letter was sent home today listing items needed. We need your help.

Many students have sent in mittens and gloves for our school "GIVING TREE".  A big thank you goes out to all that participated.  You can still send in items for our "GIVING TREE".(gloves and mittens only)

OTHER

Please check your child's agenda every day to see if homework is being completed.

Our treat box is always in need of donated items.  Please make sure your child has pencils and crayons for school every day.

You can check the school website for  monthly lunch menus. Menus will not be sent home any more.

I HOPE THAT EVERYONE HAS A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY BREAK.  ENJOY THE TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY.!!!

ACADEMIC NEWS

In Reading we are working on cause-effect relationships.  We have also been reading about tricky animal tales; we will write our own tricky tale.

In Math we are working diligently on  2digit/2digit subtraction with regrouping.  Many students are struggling with this concept. Please remember to reinforce this skill at home also.

In Social Studies we are studying Georgia Heroes.  We have reviewed James Oglethorpe, Sequoyah, and Tomochichi.  We are fortuntate to have so many exciting heroes from the state of Georgia.

Mrs Korzenok has worked so hard in getting our materials ready for our Fall Festival basket.  Thank you for all the parents that donated items .  It looks sensational.  We also decorated some scary pumpkins this week. A big thanks to Mrs. Korzenok for that also.

Mr Sills is working hard on our AR program in the classroom.  Remind your child to read every night for at least 20 minutes.

OTHER

Please remember to send only one snack with your child per day.  Make sure the snack is something that can be eaten in 15 minutes.  In Health,  we did brainstorm some ideas for healthy snacks.

Please remember to sign the behavior sheet every Thursday night and return on Friday

Students still need pencils and erasers in the classroom.Agendas are where important notes and homework is kept.  Please make sure that agenda are being returned to school every day. 

Our new PE teacher, Mr. Dickerson, started this week.

Remember to wear RED tomorrow for Red Ribbon Week.

Academic News

In readng we continue to work on locating information in a paragraph.  We arejust beginning to learn how to locate the main idea in a paragraph.

In math we are working on 2digit addition with regrouping.  Many students are still struggling with this concept.  Please reinforce this skill at home also.  This unit will be ending next week. 

We have concluded our social studies for this 9 weeks.  In science we are beginning our unit on matter.

Please remember to send in donations for our Fall Festival.  We still need  volunteers for copy parent and mystery reader in the classroom.

MANY, MANY, students need pencils , crayons, and a colored checking pen for the classroom.  Please check with your child to see if they have the supplies needed to be successful in the classroom.

Remember students are not allowed to have mechanical pencils in the classroom. 

Please remember to check to see if you child has completed their homeroom every night.

Many children are forgetting homework and they  need  that extra reinforcement.
