Please send in a donation for the fall festial booth for our class if you have not already.  Thanks for the donations that have been sent in.  Our booth is themed after the movie Up.  Hope you can volunteer to work a shift at our booth on Friday night.

Fall festival tickets go on sale November 10th in school lobby (7:20-8:00) and in car-line (2:00-2:30). Get your tickets early to avoid long lines on Friday.  25 tickets for $10 if you purchase them early.  Bakset tickets are $2.00 each.  Carpool or walk to ease parking issues!!

I am plannng a civil war food day the week of the 16th.  I will need parents to cook civil war recipes and bring the dishes in. Recipies will be provided.  I will also need parents to assist in the activity.  More information will come home this week.  Please e-mail me if you can help with this.  Students may dress up as civil war people.

IOWA scores are coming home today.  Please feel free to schedule a conference to review scores if you would like.

BOO to you!!

Hope you are doing well.  I ended up being out of school 4 days last week with a sick child.  Everyone is finally healthy!  Remind students to keep hands washed. 

Friday we have store to spend our CAKE CASH.  We thought it would be fun to have a Spooky Store.  Please send in spooky items for our store on Friday.  I am thinking of the Halloween trinkets and small toys for sale at Wal-mart, Target..etc...

Please check and sign agendas each night.  Look and check over homework to make sure it is correct and clear up any confusion your child may be having.

Mon..No specials due to teacher collaboration..We will watch the Harriet Tubman video instead.

Please keep a strict eye on reading time.  Many students have not earned any AR points or shown evidence of reading a non-AR book.  Remember, I need parents to help me enforce this 30 minute reading rule. 

Please return envelopes report cards were sent home in as well as white signature cards asap.

Take-home folders---LOOK at all papers carefully.  Sign anything below an 80 and return.

On-line math and social studies book links are posted under online text books on my blog.

All students NEED a flashdrive...Please purchase one for your student if you have not done so.

Hello Parents and Students:

The permission form for Growth and Development Class must be signed and returned by Tuesday, October 13, 2009. 

The 5th grade math book is not online.  Students have their user name and password taped inside the front cover of their agenda.  The link to the site is:  5th Grade Math Book. 

Picture retakes are October 16.  Forms are available in the front office.

Yearbook forms will be sent home in the Monday folder.  The yearbook is cheaper if ordered before 12.18.09.

Social Studies projects on the 15th or 19th amendments are due Monday, October 12, 2009.

Bus Safety Week  

Just a reminder, School Bus Safety Week is from October 19-23. The Official Bus Driver/Monitor Appreciation Day is held on October 19th . It would be great for the kids to make “thank you” cards or letters of appreciation to their Bus Drivers.

 

October is Here!!

Hello Parents and Students,

I hope you are loving this fall weather as much as I am!! Happy Fall to you all!!

We began DOL last week.  We will have our first DOL quiz tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 1).   To study, I suggest retyping the DOL questions for the week and correcting them for practice.  My own daughter studies for her weekly DOL quizzes using this method.  Sometimes she types the sentences and sometimes I do.

Please drop off students between 7:15 and 7:45 for school.  There is not supervision for students before 7:15.

Store is tomorrow, October 2.   Please send in items for us if you have any at home.  We need a surplus.

AR:  The AR store opens Friday, October 2.  Students will earn 1 dollar per 5 AR points.  If your child is reading a non-AR book you will need to sign a slip verifying they have the read the book since an AR test will not be taken.

Check academics for assignments due and upcoming tests.

Also check the CRCT link with CRCT vocabulary.  It is not too early to began preparing!!

We were supposed to have STORE today, but I am holding off until next week hoping I will get some donations for you guys.  We will plan to have STORE next Friday.

Some of this week's academics will move over to next week since we missed two days of instruction.

Whew, all done with IOWA testing and ready for a regular schedule.

Please contact me by e-mail if you can help with the 5th grade celebration at the end of the year.  There needs to be some parents from each room to participate to make this event successful.  The planning stage is important for this event.

Please let me know if you are already participating in this event so I will know our class has some representation.

Thanks to Mrs. Baskerville for volunteerng to be our Reading Mom.

If you read the blog tell me what test we took this past week (IOWA) and you will receive $5 in Cake Cash.

$100 in Cake Cash to any student passing the 3 minute multiplication fluency test which we will have each Friday.  Automatic multiplication knowledge will make us better with longer computation problems this year.  Mathplayground is an excellent resource for practice.  Just 15 minutes a night will help. 

Reflection Projects are due Friday.  This is an excellent opportunity to go the extra mile!!

Hello Parents and Students,

Sorry for the delay with the blog! 

Next week is IOWA testing MON-FRI.  Please get to bed early each night and have a protein filled breakfast! 

We need parents from our room to volunteer to help with the 5th grade trip and the 5th grade reception.  Please e-mail me if you can volunteer.  Your help is needed to make these events a time to remember!

I need a parent volunteer to be a "Reading Mom".  Your commitment level will be a small one consisting of working once a month at the AR store in the morning before school and possibly helping with AR communicaton.  We have set our AR goals, but are not having parents come weekly to do anything in the classroom.  Please e-mail me if you can help us.

Please remember to sign the take home folder and return it by Wednesday of each week.  A PTA folder will come home on Thursday of each week beginning next week if there is any communications from the PTA.

Week Four

This weeks events:

AR Kickoff is Monday, August 31.

First guidance lesson of this year is this Friday.  Mrs. Young is our guidance counselor.

We had our first class store last Friday.  The secret word for reading the blog this week is John Hancock.  Say this to Ms. Caden secretly to get a reward.  Don't tell anyone else.  We will have store on the last Friday of each month.  Please send in inexpensive items for our students to purchase during store.  Items can be sent in anytime and I will put them away for our next store day.

If you have not sent in a flashdrive for your child, please do so.  Each child needs a flash drive for technology activities.
