Early Release Day: Next Wednesday, Oct. 21, is an Early Release Day. Students are dismissed starting at 12:15. Special Education buses leave at noon.

 

Jacket 2 Jacket: Information on this reading program was sent home last week. All students can participate by turning in a log of pages read or read to them between October 9 and November 9. Everyone who participates gets a free ticket to a GA Tech Women’s basketball game and parents can buy a ticket for $2. There are also prizes for class totals. Let me know if you need another copy of the log or information sheets.

 

Wish List: We are out of disinfectant wipes. We have been wiping down tables and door handles each day, to slow the spread of germs. We also need plastic drinking cups, 8 or 9 ounce is fine. Any donations will be appreciated!

 

Fall is here! As long as it is not raining, we’ll go outside every day. Please make sure children have warm jackets. After so many weeks of rain, we know how much we need after-lunch exercise!!

 

Keeping healthy: There have been confirmed cases of H1N1 here in both students and teachers. Students with any flu-like symptoms should stay home. We are doing our best to keep hands clean at school to slow the spread of germs.

What a week! I sincerely hope that you were not affected by this week’s devastating weather. It is hard to see our friends, neighbors, and families suffer. In her SPECS letter, Ms. Manharth sent information describing how we can help students and teachers from Clarkdale Elementary.

Reflections: Reflections entry forms are included with this email. Please sign the form if you want your child’s art to progress beyond our school’s exhibition. We had several special needs students at Still last year who had entries at the State level!! I will need the signature forms by MONDAY (sorry for the late notice, blame the weather).

Fall is here! I noticed that the weather is supposed to turn cool next week, although the days will still be nice. Be sure students have jackets because we go outside every day we possibly can.

After 3 weeks of school: We are settling into our routine and starting to learn some great things! We've had one unit on Citizenship encompassing social studies standards from 4th & 5th grade. Next, we are beginning a science unit on water which will cover the water cycle and changes in water due to temperature. Using our interactive white board with slide shows keeps everyone focused. Students can come up to the board to answer questions by clicking on the board making learning fun.

Hat Days & Spirit Days: Fridays are the days to wear your fun clothing. The first Friday of every month is a School Spirit Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Still shirts on the same day. If you haven't ordered a shirt yet and wish to do so, let me know and I'll send home an order form. Every Friday is Relay For Life Hat Day. For a 25-cent donation, students can wear a baseball-style cap in school all day. A volunteer is on hand every week to collect the quarters. 

Email Bulletins: Occasionally, our Principal will need to send email announcements to parents. In order to do so, she sends them to teachers and we forward the messages. The first one came this week informing you of the flu letter that was sent home. I will always begin the messages with "From the Principal." If you don't have email, you will receive the messages in print.

August 10th Newsletter

Welcome to a new school year! It was so nice to meet everyone on Friday and to see familiar faces. I am looking forward to a terrific year and expecting to see our students grow and learn.

Our class schedule is available in the "Pages" section of this blog. It may change (probably) but for now, you can see what your child’s day looks like. In the time slots that say “individual and small group instruction,” two students may be working together with an adult if they are on the same level and working on similar skills. Speech and other therapies are not yet scheduled. Once they are, you will receive a schedule specific to your child.

 

Daily Folders are now coming home. Please check the folder every day for notes from me, school news, and homework. There will be a place for you to write notes to me, so we can be in daily communication.

My contact information is also located in the "Pages" section of the blog. Email is the best way to reach me. I read my email often throughout the day and sometimes I can send a quick note back to you. If you don’t have email, then of course, leave a message on my voice mail and I will return the call.

Coming Events: Open House Thursday, August 18th at 6:30. Begin in the cafeteria and come to the classroom from 7:00 - 7:30.

 

Welcome to the 2009-2010 School Year

Hello and welcome! I am looking forward to a terrific year at Still, getting to know your children and watching them learn and grow. I will update this blog weekly, so be sure to check here for classroom information and school news.

There are a few things you will want to know about this page. I will post our classroom schedule. It will not contain personal activities such as speech therapy, but you will be able to see our learning blocks, lunch, specials, and recess schedules. The schedule will undoubtedly change from time to time, but I will try to keep you informed. You will also recieve a hard copy of your child's individual schedule once it is settled. This could take up to a week, since the related services teachers often visit several schools.

I have posted a suggested list of supplies, based on grade-level requests, but I have deleted items we won't be using in my room (because I have plenty here). I will occasionally ask for donations of things we run out of, such as tissues, glues sticks, etc.

Friday is our "Sneak-a-Peek" day. The hours are listed below. Please feel free to come at any time within the hours of 12-3 if your assigned time is not convenient for you.
