Thanksgiving Feast!!!!!

We will be having our annual Thanksgiving Feast on Friday,November 21st at 12:00 in our classroom!!  We will be giving thanks for our families so any and all family members are invited.  I will send out a form on Thursday asking how many guests you will be bringing and if you are bringing a hot, cold, or other type of dish.  Please be specific with what you will be bringing so I do not have multiples of items.  We will also be having a special Thanksgiving play so bring your cameras!!!!

December CBI: We will be going to Target and Taco Bell for our December CBI.  We are going to be shopping for a family member at Target on Friday, December 5th.  I will be sending out a Target catalog for you to choose an item from so that your child can find that item in the store when we go.  Please send in the correct amount for the Target item plus $5.00, at most, for Taco Bell with the food choice that your child will want to eat.

October News

Happy Fall!!!

Its that time of year and the weather turns colder.  Please send in warmer clothes for your child to keep here in case of an accident.  If your child is potty trained you do not have to send in anything.

Pictures of CBI's and class activities will be up Friday!

Parents,

We have a new communication book.  It is now a student writing activity.  I am using the Intellikeys software to have them write out what they did at school during the day.  It allows them to actually write out what they want to tell you about their day using an adapted keyboard.  Please give me feedback whether you prefer the new version or the old version.  Donna, Ginny, or I will write notes on the back of the paper as I am trying to conserve paper.  No need to waste trees!

Field Trip:

Where: Cagle's Dairy Farm  When: 10/30/08  Time: 9:15-1:30

Please turn in permission forms and money if you haven't already. All chaperones will have to drive to Cagle's Dairy Farm as only students and teachers can ride the bus. If you would like to be a chaperone please let me know.

November CBI: Our November CBI is going to be at Stevie B's on November 7th where each child will make their own pizza to eat for lunch.  Please send in $4.00 for your child's pizza and drink.

Please note: We take your student on CBI's to help them learn independence from parents and to work on IEP goals and objectives which are confidential.  Thanks for your understanding with this.

September

September News:

CBI: Our first CBI is September 5th, this Friday.  Please send in $5.00 with your child if they plan on buying lunch.  We will be going to McDonald's to get lunch to-go and then we will go to Lost Mountain Park to eat a picnic lunch and to practice turn taking on the covered playground.  We will be away from the school from 10:00-1:00.  Please let me know if your child is leaving early that day as we have to make sure to have a check-out log with us on the trip.

AdPE is on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays

Early Literacy Skills Builder: The Early Literacy Skills Builder is a program specifically designed to teach students with cognitive disabilities how to read.  It is a wonderful program that I have used since spring of last year.  It really does work!  For those of you who have requested that I send home some of the items from the Early Literacy Skills Builder (ELSB) please know that I am putting it all together this week.  The students know this book as the "Moe" book so I would introduce it to them as the "Moe" book at home.  If you haven't requested ELSB items and you would like to have some sent home please send me a note or e-mail (ivey.hansard@cobbk12.org).

I will update the blog periodically this month so keep checking back.

Welcome Back!!!

                              WELCOME BACK!!!!

As we start a new school year please remember the following:

We will have CBI's (Community Based Instruction) once a month and as soon as I know what day we will have them I will post the information.  Our CBI's are the same day each month and we will go out into the community to work on social skills and community based skills.

                            http://www.dailyweeder.com/2007/02/Snacks

I do not require the students bring in individual snacks.  I do, however, ask for each student to bring in a class snack that everyone can share.  By doing this we will be able to spread out the snacks over a period of time.  Chips and Cheetos are class favorites!  When we are running low I will send home a note stating that "We need snacks!"  The note will state if the snack needs to be salty or sweet.

                                       Dismissal

One of our classroom rules is that after 1:30 (unless there is a class party) there should not be any parent present in the classroom as we are trying to pack up and need the students to be as attentive as possible.  If you are picking your child up as a car rider please wait in the lobby or in your car as we will bring your child out as soon as we get them packed up.  Our afternoon pack up time consists of having the students fill out their communication books on what they did for that day.  It is important that I have their attention for this or we will not get out to the buses or cars on time (2:00).  Thanks for your understanding and support in this matter.

Parents who are picking up their child in the afternoon DO NOT have to wait in the car line!  Since our class gets out 2:00 and not 2:15 we ask that you pull up to the front door and we will bring your child out.

School Policy: If you are checking your child in or out please sign them IN at the attendance office and sign them OUT in the front office.  You will also need to sign in yourself if you are going to walk them to class or walk to the classroom to get them.
