Hood's Headlines for 5-18-09: Last Week of School

Can you believe it's our last week together?  This year has flown by.  Things have been so busy that I'm a couple of days late posting for this week.  Just wanted to remind you of a few things as we wrap up the year.

Thursday, May 21 is the last day to bring bookbags to school.  I will be sending home all papers and other materials on Thursday.

Our end-of-year celebration will be this Friday, May 22 at the Casteel Heights clubhouse.  I hope that everyone will be able to attend.  Please see the invitation that was sent home for additional information.

Report cards will be mailed home the week after school is out.  If you have any remaining charges due to ASP, the cafeteria, media center, etc. those will need to be paid in full before those report cards can be sent.

I'm so grateful to each one of you for making this year so special.  I have loved every minute of teaching this class.  I hope you each have a restful and safe summer.  Please stay in touch.  I want to know how you all are doing as you head on to middle school.  Know that I will always cherish you.  Thank you for being such a blessing!  Much love to you!    ~Miss Hood

Hood's Headlines for 5-11-09

Hi everyone!

Whew, this is going to be a busy couple of weeks.  We have so much going on.  Please, please, please make sure you check the Important Dates to Remember page for up-to-date information.

Field Day was wonderful!  Even though we had to postpone due to rain, the kids seemed to have a great time.  Thanks to all the parents who came out.

This Thursday, May 14 is our 5th grade trip to Stone Mountain park.  We will be leaving at approximately 8:30 a.m. and arriving back to school at approximately 6:00 p.m.  Pick your child up from the bus lanes that evening.  Students, please remember to bring a sack lunch and a rain jacket.  Students may also bring a small hand-held video game device, however we are not responsible for lost or damaged items.  Therefore, bring at your own risk.

The 4th nine weeks report card will be sent home via mail.  Please return the self-addressed envelope with 2 stamps for correct postage by this Friday, May 15.  Any student who has an outstanding balance with the cafeteria, ASP, media center, or other textbooks will not receive the report card until payment has been made.

Our class will be having an end-of-year celebration on Friday, May 22 after school.  This party is being sponsored by parents of our class.  This is NOT a Still Elementary or Cobb County sponsored function.  Invitations will be going home soon with information regarding our celebration.  I look forward to seeing you all there!

Graded papers from last week are: DOL 35 quiz, Social Studies quiz, open book Science test, volcano crossword.

Congratulations to Carson McGourk for being the Terrific Kid for the month of May.

Congratulations to Emely Torres for being the Student of the Week.

Hood's Headlines for 5-4-09

Hello all!  Can you believe we are in the last month of school!!  My goodness this year has flown by.  I'm so sad about seeing it come to an end.  I have had the best time teaching each one of these students!  Please keep checking the blog for up-to-date information as we are going to be very busy these last 3 weeks.

Our field day was cancelled today due to the rain.  Our new date for field day will be this Friday, May 8.  This is also Walk to School Day.  If you live too far away to walk you can walk on track at the upper field once you get to school.

Next Thursday, May 14, is our field trip to Stone Mountain.  Students can ride the bus as usual but you will need to arrange transportation to pick up your child that evening.  We are planning to be back at Still between 6 - 6:30 p.m.  We will arrive in the bus lane area.  Also, your child will need to bring a sack lunch for the trip.  Snacks will be provided.

You should have received an invitation to the 5th grade awards ceremony in today's take home folder. The ceremony will be on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:00 a.m. at West Cobb Church. In the letter sent previously it stated that dressing up is optional.  However, we are asking that students please dress in their "Sunday best" for this event.  It is such a special time for all and so many people have put a lot of hard work into it to make this a memorable occasion.  Thank you for your support in this.

We are trying to put together a celebration for our class. This will not be a Still Elementary/Cobb County sponsored event.  This will take place away from school.  Be looking for details to come later.

Graded papers from last week are:  DOL 34 quiz, Science quiz on constructive/destructive processes, Spelling unit 19 test, Wordly Wise 19 test.

Congratulations to Emely Torres for being this week's Student of the Week.
