The Iowa Test of Basic Skills test (ITBS) will be given the week of September 14-18 for 3rd and 5th graders only. Be insure that your child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast, and is not absent (if possible). Your child will be tested the first 2 hours of each day during this week.

September 18 IDENT-A-KID photos will be taken
October 6 Chick Fil A night
October 7 Walk to School Day
October 9 End of Nine Weeks
October 16 Report cards and IEP progress reports come home
October 19 Field Trip to the Fire Safety Village
October 21 Early Release Day - your child will come home 2 hours earlier
IN ACADEMICS:
Writing - We are focusing on writing descriptive narratives. In addition, your child practices writing each day in his/her writing journal.
Math - In 5th grade, we are learning about decimals: place value, rounding, adding and subtracting
Reading - I have given your child a Fall reading assessment. We are reading a variety of genre. In addition, your child has an easy chapter book to read before the end of the month and a book report to do by September 30th.
English - We will soon be ready for our unit 1 test on common and proper nouns.
Science - The focus is on the scientific method and matter.
Social Studies - We will be learning about the different levels of government: local, state, and federal.
