Here we go!!!! 16 days and counting....

Field Day was a blast! We had a great turn out for volunteers and enjoyed beautiful weather!

CRCT testing is over!!! The students did a great job listening and following directions! We celebrated on Friday with our AR pizza party for reaching a !00% of our class goal!

Please remember to mark your calendars for important dates listed in last weeks blog! Notes were sent home concerning the author's tea. I am still waiting on several to be returned. This is a very important time for students to be able to look out into the crowd and see someone from their "family". Please let me know if you are not able to make it. Students are working very hard on the story for the Author's Tea. It will even be typed by them at school! I am very impressed with their typing skills.

Items are still needed for our Pirate's Treasure! Items such as wrapped candy/lollipops/blowpops would be great! Please make sure you send 22 of each of the same item.

Blog question: Who is sitting on top of our book shelf in the reading corner?

Cat in the Hat will need to travel to several houses before the end of the year. If he is sent home with your child, please make sure you return him on the day indicated. His journal has been so exciting to read!

Our AR rally is scheduled for Friday, May 2. These awesome Joiner Jetsetters read and passed 1082 books. A total of 554.4 points were earned in our class!!! Way to go!! Thanks so much to Karen Clark and Alicia Tankersley for working with our AR program this year! I am so proud of the reading progress this class has made!

Thanks,

Lashelle Joiner

Academic pages to the right are updated....

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! We have 28 busy days to go!! We are practicing our test taking skills each day. Please take time to go over any missed problems from our packets with your child. You should be recieiving the packets to sign after we have worked on them in class. I feel very confident that they will do a great job on the CRCT provided they all have a good night's rest. Our testing starts Wednesday. Please make sure you start preparing their little bodies with good rest on Monday. A lack of sleep can build up restlessness over time! (As I'm sure you all know!) I have also requested "fun" snacks to be sent in from 3 parents. I have one response. So if you are interested, please email me. (Examples: Little Debbie variety basket, Rice Krispie treats, anything out of the ordinary). We will celebrate on Friday with a pizza party earned from AR points. All students will be participating in the pizza party. However, if your child is not at 100%, keep reading. We are working on this in class as well. You will get an update on Monday. AR will end on Monday 4/28. During the AR end of the year rally, all students with 100% will stand up. Please help your child reach that goal!

Blog question: What is your favorite AR animal?

Dates to add to your calendar!!!!

We are still planning our outside "fun time" hosted by PTA for winning the most sales with the fundraiser from the  fall. The date will be announced!

So....go load your calendars!!

Items needed: snacks for CRCT, daily snacks, items for Pirate treasure, items for store

Pirate Treasure request: Please send in 22 of the same "treasure like" item. You may also send boy/girl items if it makes it easier. We have 12 boys and 9 girls. Try not to let your child see the treasures. Any items not used in the chest will be used in the end of the year store sale! We will hunt the treasure by using a "treasure map". It will be hidden somewhere in the school. We will then bring the treasure back to class and divide the "loot"! We will also need bags to carry it all home!

We would like to welcome Thomas Molander to our class from Illinois! The class has done a great job showing him the routine! You would think he has been her all year!

I'll use my mother's famous phrase..."Where has the time gone???" I absolutely cannot believe we are planning the end of the year! It has been an incredible year! We have 5 busy weeks to go!

Thanks so much for all your support!

April 1- April Fool's Day

The students copied homework into agenda's this morning as usual. I have overloaded them with homework but only heard several comments of running out of room on agenda to copy it all down. I just commented that we need to catch up for missing homework  on Spring Break! I plan to pass out many additional things to work on tonight as well. I can't wait to say "April Fool's!" before dismissal! No homework tonight! I hope you all can make it to Chick-Fil-a tonight! Blog question: What do we add to our jar for good behavior?

academic pages to the right are updated....

We are completing our unit on nutrition this week. I hope your children have been trying to make "organwise" decisions. We are also practicing for the CRCT test which takes place April 23-25. Make up testing will take place April 26-29. Please be aware  that make up testing will be given by a different teacher. Please make every effort to have your child at school to be allowed to take this test in a familiar setting with our class. As you practice with the online testing, please remember all questions are  read by the teacher. All reading passages are read alone while questions are read by the teacher. Students are encouraged to make their best guess if they are having difficulty reading each word. They are also encouraged to look back at the passage and to reread if necessary. I would like to supply a class "fun" snack on each our days of testing to "celebrate" a morning of good work. If you would like to provide a snack for one of the three days, please let me know.

We have retested on the Star test. You should recieve a letter stating the new check out level. I am very pleased with the progress the students have made in reading!

Student of  the week-Ryan Moon

Please mark your calendars for our field day coming up soon....(I can't believe I'm already talking about field day!!) April 18th More details to follow... It usually lasts from about 9:00-1:00.

Don't forget to go to Chick-Fil-A tonight! It is our big chance with so many 5th graders out of town on the Target trip!!

We are out of snacks! I'll send a note home with your child if they forget as a reminder. I think some are still trying to "accidently" leave a snack at home that they don't like.

Have a great Spring Break!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! We had a very special day last Friday thanks to our great book buddies in Mrs. Earnest's class. They hid our eggs and watched us hunt them! Thanks to all the parents for sending them in! Thanks to Selina Moon for providing the wonderful baskets! Thanks also to Jennifer Cook (Adam's mom) for bringing in ingredients and helping us cook sugar cookies! The kids even got to roll out the dough and cut out a special cookie! Everyone should have filled in their recipe so I hope it made it home! We also had a special guest at the end of the day. Did you hear about it? If not, ask your child.

Blog question: Who was our special guest on Friday? Were they expecting a mystery reader when they closed their eyes?

I can't believe we are celebrating Easter on Sunday! Where is the Spring weather?? We will be hunting eggs with our book buddies on Friday. If you have volunteered to send in eggs and haven't sent them in please let me know. I need to know how many more we need to be ready for Friday. Our boosterthon run was a lot of fun. Please remember all pledges are due on Friday 3/21. Art work orders are also due this week on 3/20-Thursday. I can't wait to share pictures with the students from my recent trip last week. We took the girls to New York! I know we all walked over 10 miles! There was so much to see!! Of course, we enjoyed the escalator in the American Girl store! I never imagined it having four floors! But we managed to cover every inch of it!

Blog question: What color is our treasure chest?

Student of the Week: Katie Graham

You will be getting report cards on Thursday. Please sign and return the signature card on Friday. I am very happy to report much progress in the reading grades! It is so exciting to see the hard work paying off! Please let me know if you have questions or would like a conference.

Academic updates to the right....

I can't believe  we are close to Easter! We are just recovering from the time change! Our book buddies would love to hide eggs for us! We have really created a great relationship with our buddies this year! We have read, played computer games, counted money and had a great time playing catch outside! I need 10 people to send in 20 eggs stuffed with candy. Please secure the eggs with tape if they do not hold together well. If they are tight eggs, then do not worry about the tape. Please respond by email if you would like to volunteer for this. They will need to be sent in by Wednesday, March 19!

Thanks to Jennifer Cook for helping make "Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies". I hope your child shared the recipe with you. We had a great time all being involved in cooking! We will be cooking again very soon!

Blog question: What was in  the estimation jar today?

Student of the Week: Mia Morrissey

We hope to see you all at the Fun Run on Wednesday morning 10:15-11:15!

I will be out Thursday and Friday this week. Please know emails will not be responded to until Monday!

Thanks,
