Author, Bettye Stroud to Visit Still Elementary
Georgia author, Bettye Stroud, will visit Still Elementary on
Wednesday, February 20th. This is a makeup date for
February 5th. She will speak to students in all grade levels.
The program is offered through the Owl's Tree Bookstore
in Powder Springs and funded by Still's PTSA.
Ms Stroud is the author of several picture books that speak of
her African-American heritage, including Dance Y'All,
The Leaving, and Patchwork Path: A quilt map to freedom.
Her writing mission is to inspire young readers to meet
challenges by teaching them the stories of their forebears
who used courage and ingenuity to solve overwhelming
problems. Reading her stories gives the reader glimpses
into the past and connects the present to the future.
Books are available for purchase, however this is NOT a
fundraiser. Books are discounted by 15 %. An orange order
form was distributed to students on 22 January. If you choose
to purchase a book, please send a check or cash with the order
form to the media center by Tuesday, 29 January, payable to
The Owl's Tree Bookstore.
Call Ms Kitty @ 678.594.8287 ext 230 for more information.
