May 5th News from Lehmann's Class

I know AR has come to an end, but we would again like to thank Mrs. Mitchell, Tommy's grandmother. She has worked tirelessly to print weekly reports, share AR progress and motivate the children to read. Please encourage your child to read daily. Need some books? you may want to visit the Still Book Fair which is currently underway in our Media Center. It will run through Friday. Our class went down today for a preview. I'm sure the students will be coming home with their wish list. Please remember all books are due to the Media Center this Friday, May 8th. 

Please send back the manila colored envelopes containing the registration information. I need to get these to the attendance office as soon as possible. 

Please send a Stamped, Self Addressed business size envelope so that your child's report card can be mailed to your home.

Curriculum:

This week we are reading a story about the Titanic and doing related activities. We will also study Medicine Safety in Health, prepare for a test over Economics next Tuesday, continue to practice cursive writing, and study Bar Graphs. In Social Studies we will study Cultures Around the World.

I want to thank all of you for the wonderful gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week!

 

Your children recently visited the

Tellus

Museum

. They were able to participate in several interesting activities, including mining for gem stones! I am sure they have shown you all of their treasures! Although the weather did not cooperate, everyone had an enjoyable time.

 

Ms. Gentry, a

Kennesaw

State

University

student, will be joining our class for the month of April. She is currently completing her Education Degree. She will be helping with instruction in the classroom. If you see her around the school please say hello; I know she looks forward to meeting all of you.

 

Please remind your children to bring their pencils and paper to class. It is hard for them to participate if they do not bring needed materials. Also, we could use more tissues in the classroom; we are almost out. We appreciate all of your help.

 

Remind your children to wear their Still Elementary t-shirts on Friday of this week.

 

CRCT Testing will begin April 21^st and go through May 1^st. Please make sure your child completes the on-line practice tests.

 

Curriculum:

 

Reading- We will be reading books on heat energy this week.

 

Social Studies- We’ll learn about FDR and have a quiz over the information

 

Math Compacting- We are finishing multiplication and will begin division this week

 

Science- We are learning about plant features.

 

English – We will be studying nouns and pronouns.

March 22 News from Lehmann's Class

Well it looks like spring has arrived! It seems the weather will be perfect for our field trip on Wednesday. Please remember that the children should be at school on time. If they are bringing lunch from home they should also bring a drink too. No glass please! There is a gift shop if your child would like to make a purchase. The prices range from $0.50 to $5.00. The price for parents is $12.00. I'm sure you have already read all of this in the update that came home on Friday. 

Your child brought home a letter and directions for a Biography Report project. The students will prepare the index cards at home. The Biography doll will be made in class.  Please send any materials that your child might want to include, such as fabric scraps, wiggly eyes, lace and etc. We will be making the doll on the Friday before Spring Break. The cards are due that day as well. Please return the bottom portion of the letter for my records.

Curriculum:

Reading - CRCT Review and read  Plants Bite Back 

Math Compacting - Multiplication of two digit numbers with regrouping. Please have your child study the facts daily. We will be having timed division tests on Tuesday of each week.  

English - Using I and me correctly

Social Studies - Finish Landforms and test on Friday/ Read  about Franklin Roosevelt

Science - We will be studying  about plants in Georgia

Health - Learn about the Respiratory System

March 11th News from Mrs. Lehmann's Room

Thank you for sending the Lunch order information back to school. We will send more information home as the March 25 Field trip draws closer.

The Still Talent and Variety Show will be held at Lovinggood Middle School on Friday, March the 13th. There are a few students from our classroom who have entered the contest. There will even be a special number by some of our special teachers! Hope you will make an effort to come out and join us. 

Parents, although the days are getting warmer, the students still need to bring a jacket because we go out for recess at 11:00. It is still cool at this time of day.

Thanks for sending in tissue for the class since we are still in the middle of cold and flu season. Maybe it will be over soon. 

Curriculm News:

Math - We have begun a new unit over multiplication and division of 8's and 9's. We will also be doing two digit computation. It is extremely important that your child knows the multiplication facts because it will be a slow process if he or she doesn't. Please spend a few minutes each day practicing the facts. We are learning some little stories to make learning the facts easier. Ask your child to share them with you.

Reading - Beverly Cleary Stories and CRCT review/ Please have your child continue to read AR books. We have noticed that some of the children are not taking tests as often as they should.

English - We are writing a Personal Narrative in class. This is another piece that will be evaluated for The Georgia Writing.

Social Studies - We are studying Landforms, the ways they were formed and  their locations in the United States. The class will be making a Landform Booklet at home.

Health - Guidance (Child Lures) and the Circulatory System  

Handwriting - Upper case cursive letters

The snow was a quite a surprise, but not enough to keep us from School!  What a shame!

We are getting low on tissue again so if you could pick some up at the store that would be great!

Tomorrow is Dr. Suess Read Across America Day. We will have guest readers coming in to read to the children. This is a special day for the students.

We are preparing for the CRCT by taking practice tests and talking about what to expect.

Still's Enviromental Education and Recycling Project is in full swing. Items may be brought to school until April 1. A list follows:

Lehmann's News Update

The students had a good time at the Paul Revere play last Wednesday! They enjoyed sharing information they learned about Paul Revere. Their behavior was wonderful! We are looking forward to our next field trip in March.

Thanks for sending the Six Flags Reading forms back. We had eight people who participated. I was really glad to see that these children wanted to take part. 

Curriculum News:

Reading - We will begin an exciting  unit on Beverly Cleary.  The students always enjoy this because they are reading stories about children very much like themselves. Can't wait to get started. Hopefully your child will chooose to read more of her books when we are finished with the unit.

Math - We are working on Perimeter and Area this week. Please continue studying the multiplication facts! We are making good progress. 

English - We are working on Pronouns.

Science - Finish Georgia Habitats and test next week

Social Studies -  Read about Fredrick Douglas

February 15th News from Lehmann's Class

Thanks  to all of you who came to the Family and Friends ' Luncheon. Didn't the students do a wonderful job singing? Their music was moving!

Students enjoyed exchanging valentines with  their classmates on Friday.

This will be an extremely busy week for third graders. Wednesday, the students will be going to Performing Arts. The buses will leave school at 11:00. Students will also be treated to a wellness program on Tuesday.

Curriculum:

Math - Continue unit on Measurement, learn how to find the Perimeter of a figure.

Reading -Paul Revere Play and read George Washington's Breakfast and do related activities

News from Lehmann's Room

Market Day was a huge success! The students enjoyed spending their hard earned money. It was neat to watch them make buying decisions. They really gave a lot of thought to their purchases. Thanks to all of you who donated items to be sold. Our next Market Day will be coming up in April. Students will make their own items to sell.

Thanks to Mrs. Rossi for helping set up  and run the School Store during Market Day.

We will be having our Social Studies test over government on Tuesday. A Review sheet went home

last week.

The "Have a Heart" Fundraiser will run from February 9 - 13. Hearts will be $.50 and $1.00. Please help up support this effort.

Students will exchange Valentines on Friday, February 13. Please remember to include all students. A class list is going home tomorrow.

Please join us on Tuesday for the Family and Friends' Day. Third Grade students will be singing at 10:15 and lunch will follow. Please send in your reservation if you plan to come.

News from Lehmann's Class

Parents,

Thanks so much for coming to your child's conference last week. I enjoyed sitting down with you and sharing your child's progress over the past few months. This helps your child know that we are a TEAM - which means Together Everyone Achieves More.

There are still three weeks remaining in the Six Flags Reading Program, if your child would like to participate. Please remind him or her that they can  use their books toward their AR goals as well.

The third grade was treated to breakfast with Mrs. Manharth as a reward for achieving  50% of their  AR goal for the year. They enjoyed spending special time with their Principal.

Thanks parents for sending in snacks for our friendship mix on the 1ooth Day of School. I also appreciate all of you who have made donations for our School  Market Day. The students are looking forward to Friday when they can spend their hard earned money. We are getting very low on tissue, if you'd like to pick some up when you are at the store this week. We could also use more quart size bags, since we've used a lot lately.

Reading - Finish Endangered Animals and Angela in the Arctic, and do related activities. Read "In Your Backyard" from Diamond Cove.

English/Creative Writing - Begin independent persuasive writing

Social Studies - Review for  test over Government which will be given on Tuesday, Feb. 10th. A review sheet will come home this week. We will also read a Biography on Paul Revere.

Science - We will introduce the Mountain Habitat of Georgia and do related activities.

Health - Review Nutrition and test on Friday.

Handwriting - Upper case cursive capital letters
