Newsletter Week of May 12th

This past week has been a great one.  Mrs. Melton and I want to thank all of you for the teacher appreciation gifts that you send in during the week.  We feel blessed to have such great parents.

There are only 10 days left in the school year.  We will be doing some fun learning activities these last few days.  Thursday, will be the Still shopping day.  This is one of the favorite activities that the children love.  PE will be on Tuesday and Friday for the last two weeks.  On Friday, the last day of school, our class will be ordering and eating pizza in the room.  You will not need to provide lunch for your child that day.  On Thursday morning, May 22, we would like for the parents to drop by at 8:00a.m. to get your child's kindergarten scrapbook.  Mrs. Bond has been hard at work on these.  I know that they will be something  you will treasure for a lifetime.

Each child needs to bring in a self addressed legal size stamped envelop so that I can mail you their last report card.

We hope you have a great Mother's Day.  You deserve it.

Week of March 31st

These past two weeks our class activities have revolved around spring.  Monday, we dyed eggs and had an egg roll just as they do at the White House on the Monday after Easter.  We learned all about this activity when we were learning about the  White House on the Internet.

The next few weeks our learning focus will revolve around the farm then plants and insects. We will incorporate our reading and writing into these units.

In Math, we are still working on money.  Please continue to review coin recognition, value and exchange with your child.  The remainder of the year our Math focus will be continuing money, number word recognition to ten, identifying numerals and their values to thiry, and understanding the concept of addtion and subraction.

As you know the next week will be our Spring Break.  When we return we will only have 30 days of school left.  It saddens me to see that the school year is passing so quickly. This last part of the year will involve building and strengthening the skills the children have learned this year.  When I look back I see how far they have come.  I am so proud of them.

News - Week of March 11th

The past several weeks we have been learning all about our country, presidents and American symbols.  Our reading and writing has been incorporated into this theme.  The children have made an excellent mural of the world on the wall outside our room.   They are also being influenced to use the correct spelling of their sight words if using them in their writing.

In Math, we continued working on recognition, value and counting of money.  We also have worked on solving word problems, many that pertain to classroom situations.

This next week will be the introduction of community.  Your child brought home a milk carton for him/her to transform into his/her home.  They will be put into our block center to be used for building our community.  After our field trip to the Marietta Square, your child will be given a milk carton to transform into a building in their community.  If you have not returned your permission slip for this trip, please do so immediately.  We must have one for your child to be able to go.

March 21st we will have our class egg hunt.  I would like for each child  to bring in a dozen medium size plastic eggs filled with goodies.  This insures that each child will have a dozen eggs to find.  If you would like to send in additional candies that will be fine but they must be wrapped.  This is  definetly  voluntary.  It is not manditory,  but your contributions allow us to do this activity with your child.

Early release day

PLEASE REMEMBER:  Early Release day, Tuesday March 4th.

Newsletter for Feb 25-29

This past week was a very busy week.  The children enjoyed their field trip to Hillgrove to see the play, Peggy the Half Pint Pirate.  The Hillgrove students did a very good job.  Wednesday was also a fun, activity filled day celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday.  The green eggs and ham were delicious.  Most of the children enjoed them.  They all liked the birthday cake.  Friday, the Cobb Co. Parks & Recreation Dept. came and did a presentation of different kinds of animals.  The rest of the week we focused on learning about our country and more national symbols.  We are  learning to identify and count money as well as number recognition to 30.  The children are writing daily with emphasis being placed on spacing, letter sounds, using the sight words, capitals and correct puncuation.

This week we will continue incorporating our Social Studies & Science standards into our Language Arts and Math curriculum.  We are still learning about our country.

Believe it or not we only have 55 days of school left.  There will be several activities and field trips  taking place.  Please remember to send in the paper work for the two coming up soon.  We will also be having our morning with Dads in March.  You will be receiving exact dates on these events very soon.

THanks to those parents who sent in things for this week.  Again,  I cannot thank you enough for helping make my job so enjoyable.  I could not do it without your support.

Feb.25th

The past week, the children have been learning all about America, presidents and national symbols.  This will continue to be our Social Studies unit for another two weeks.

Last Friday, we had fun with the Mad Scientiest.  The program was "Our Five Senses".  We took part in experiments that involved all of our five senses.

This week will be a very busy week.  Tuesday we will be taking a field trip to Hillgrove High School for a performing arts program.  This is a program that you gave permission at the beginning of the year.  I would like for the children to wear their Kindergarten T shirts on this day.

Wednesday, all of the Kindergarten classes will be celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday.  All of the teachers have planned several activities to share during the day.

In Language Arts, we are really focusing on learning our 40 sight words, as well as using  phonetic skills in our reading and writing.  We are also doing a lot of reading and writing in Math.  We use these skills during Math Journaling time.  The main focus for Math will be money, involving coin recognition, values, counting money and making exchanges (ex. swap five pennies for a nickel).  We are also continuing to count and recognition numerals to 30.

Please remind your child to return their library book.  Schedule permitting, we go to the media center on Thursdays, but the children are allowed to check out a new book as often as they like.

Feb. 11th News

This week your child may bring a teddy bear to school.  It will be used for lots of fun learning activities.  They will also be the guest for our Q & U wedding.  The children will also be making bear biscuits for their reception.  The wedding is a fun learning activity that takes place on Valentine's Day.  It is a simple activity we do with the children but any parents that would like can come by Thursday at 10:30.

The bears will return home on Friday.  If your child does not have a bear he/she may bring another type of stuffed animal to use.

We are also using large cans for our Valentines.  These seem to work better than the cereal boxes.  Thanks for all the things you have sent in to decorate the cans.

Newsletter Feb. 1st

Thanks to all of the parents that took time out of your busy schedules to attend your child’s conference. It was a joy to meet and share your child’s progress.
.
This week, the children have been learning all about Fairy Tales. We are traveling around to each kindergarten room to read and do interactive writing. Each class has made a story map for their fairy tale. Ours is Rumpelstilskin. The children have also been learning about what can make up a fairy tale, such as, the characters, setting, problem and solution. The fairy tale rotation will continue through next Tuesday. Today, we also talked about Groundhog Day. Your child is bringing home an orange stick the length of a groundhog. This is a measuring activity where your child is supposed to find things that are approximately the same length as his/her string. They are to write them on the paper that is coming home with him/her today.

Beginning next Wednesday, we will be learning about friendship and tying it into Valentine’s Day. Each child also needs to bring an empty cereal box to decorate for their valentines. I am sending a list of children’s names home today. I am sending it home earlier so that your child will have time to address their own cards. Remember, sending Valentines is entirely voluntarily on your child’s part. Your child does not have to participate if you choose for him/her not to.

The week of February 11th through the 15th each child will also be allowed to bring a teddy bear to school. We have fun learning activities involving them. One of the activities will be the Q & U wedding which we will have on Valentine’s Day.

This month the children will also have two holidays. There will be no school for the children on Feb. 18th and 19th.
We will have an early release day, Wednesday, Feb. 6th.

Specials will remain the same until after Feb. 18 & 19. This means we have PE on Monday and Thursday until after the 19th.

We do need donations of any type of art materials for decorating our Valentine boxes. (stickers, doilies, hearts etc.)

We could also use Hershey Hugs & Kisses to fill our Valentine treat jar.

Even though it is winter the children still like to go outside and play.  They will be taken outside as long as the temperatures are not freezing.  Make sure that he/she wears appropriate clothing for going outside.  This clothing also needs to be labeled as several children have the same coats and hats.
