Neat Website

Below is a link to a website that gives vocabulary quizzes.  For every correct answer, food is donated to the hungry.  You can go into the options and change the level.  (It starts out at a rather difficult level.)

Projects

Second and third graders are beginning their end-of-unit projects based on the multiple intelligences of Howard Gardner.  They have the list, and they need to be ready to work on it the week of April 28 and the week of May 5.  They will have at least an hour, and probably more time than that each of those two weeks.  The projects will be presented the week of May 12 on their regular Target days.  Students are welcome to use materials here, but they have also been told to bring from home anything special that they would like to use.  This should be primarily things they have already-- it should not mean a trip out to buy lots of things.  This is to be done mainly at school, though some parts may need to be completed at home if students don't finish.

Driftwood

Our trip is fast approaching-- be on the lookout for reminders on your child's tally  about details concerning the trip.  Also, check the link to the left "The Latest on the Driftwood Trip".  It contains important information. Please have Form JLCD-2 completed for each medication your child will/may need.  (You can click on the form number to download it.) Many of you mentioned certain medications on some forms in the packet, including an "over the counter medication permission form", but did not put any dose, times, etc. since there were no spaces for that information on that form.  We apologize for any inconvenience, but we need specific directions for medication in order for your students to get what they need safely.  If you already completed form JLCD-2 "Authorization to give Medication at School" (which was also in the packet), it will be available for you to add to the bag containing the medication the morning we leave.  Please see Mrs. Cone for the form.  Give the bag with the medication and the form to Mrs. Cone.

This week 4th and 5th grade students have their matching quiz on external anatomy.  Next week (March 10-14) they will have the matching quiz on internal anatomy.

If you have not already sent the $10 cash for McDonald's in an envelope labeled with your child's name, please hold it until the week of March 17-21.  If you have sent it already, it is being held safely.  Thank you.

There was an interesting article in Scientific American that we thought provided good food for thought about how we manage our gifted and other high-achieving students.  Follow the link below, or if it takes you to an error page, go to the Scientific American search page and enter "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids".

October 16, 2007

2nd and 3rd grade parents:  We are making great progress on our research project.  Second graders are nearly finished with their final drafts of their trading cards.  These are due next week.  Next week, students will have 1.5-2 hours to work on their presentations, which will be on Oct. 30th.  They know that they need to be thinking about how to do their presentations as well as any materials they need to bring next week so that they can prepare for it.

Third grade will work hard on these this Thursday.  Since they are typing them, it may take longer.  I hope that they will mostly finish this week so that they will have most of next week to work on their presentations.  On the 23rd (next week), they will finish typing and doing the picture, and will spend remaining time working on their presentations.  They know that they need to be thinking about how to do their presentations as well as any materials they need to bring next week so that they can prepare for it.  Nov. 1st, their final draft of their trading card is due (if not complete the week before), and they will have more time to work on their presentations, which will be given Nov. 8th.
