Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful Winter Break. Please take a moment to preview some of the upcoming topics we will be covering this nine weeks.
4th grade:
Math: Long division, Fractions, Decimals, Weight
Please take time to look through your students Math Journal. We will make some type of visual to go with each new skill. It is important the Math Journal goes home each night and comes back to school each day.
Social Studies: Colonization, The Revolutionary War, The New Government
Science: Stars, Planets, Earth, Moon, Solar System
These units contain a large amount of new vocabulary. We will continue making our vocabulary books to reinforce these new words. Students will use them to complete comprehension tasks, practice writing, and to refer to during open note assessments.
Spelling: Your child may not receive new spelling words each week. There are some weeks where we may focus more on content vocabulary and sight word practice.
Reading: We are continuing to work hard on sight word recognition, decoding, retelling, main idea, and comprehension strategies. Please make sure your child is reading each day. Let me know if you would like more information about the Story Grammar Marker we are using in class.
