 WEEK IN THE NEWS

  May 18, 2009

Endofyr

Well, it is our last newsletter together.  I really can’t believe how fast this year went by.  I am going to miss you all so much.  Your children have been a blessing to me and I wish them great success in their new school experiences.

We are going to have one last spelling test on Tuesday.  We will be finishing up Tuck Everlasting .  Don’t forget you have homework this summer.  I sent home a copy, but Lovinggood has it on their website.

Monday-party at the Mirabelli’s from 3:30 to 5:30.  Bring a towel.

Wednesday –Fifth Grade Award Ceremony at 9, West Cobb Church.  Children come to school as usual.  Shuttles will bring us to the church.  Children should be dressed up for this ceremony. Reception to follow at the church.

Friday—Fifth grade walk at dismissal.  BRING ME KLEENEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Mrs. Oh for our delicious ice cream cake.  We had a fun AR celebration.

Thanks to Mrs. Oh, Mrs. Mirabelli, Mr. Boyd, Mrs. Medina, and Mr. Stewart for going with us to Stone Mountain. Even with our delay, we had a super time.

We still have a few children who have not sent in updated vaccination forms.  PLEASE do this as quickly as possible.

If you do not send in the self addressed, double stamped business envelope, you will have to come to school to pick up report cards.

Make sure library books have been returned or paid for and that ASP accounts are clear so that the report card can be sent.

If you ever need my assistance, please let me know.  I will help these kids out in any way that I can.

March

Specials : Mon. Art, Tues. PE, Wed. music, Thurs. tech , Fri. PE

We will be having a social studies test over the end of World War I and the Roaring Twenties on Wednesday.  Target can take it before they go to class.  I was going to put

the Depression in there but I am going to hold off on that.  The notes are on the blog right now.

We are reading a book called “Into the Dust” which is about life in the Dust Bowl.  We are doing most of the work on it in class.  It is written as a narrative poem so it can be difficult to read sometimes.  The kids are really involved in reading it.

We are working in our new math classes that are the same as last nine weeks.

The Lovinggood counselors came to speak with us about middle school last Tuesday.  This was an eye opener to some of our students.  I think some of them are beginning to realize what a change next year will be for them.  When they heard about dealing with seven teachers, you could just hear the gasp.  Please try to be at the meeting this Thursday night at Lovinggood.  It will be truly an information overload but will help you start thinking about classes, etc.

INFORMATION

Donna Joseph is our Kid of the Week.  She is taking Indian dancing now and we are hoping that she will show us some steps soon.

MRS. RADEMACHER/WAGLEY   WEEK IN THE NEWS  3/16/09

Computertree

Specials : Mon. Art, Tues. PE, Wed. music, Thurs. tech , Fri. PE

The CRCT is coming up quickly.  All classes will be reviewing information.  Remember every child must pass the math and reading sections this year in order to be passed to the sixth grade.

The biography research papers were due last week.  We had some absolutely excellent presentations.  Thank you for your help with this.  You will see many more assignments like this as your child continues through school.  I am proud of how the kids ( and you) stuck with it.  They become examples for good study and work habits later on.

We will be testing out of this math unit over the next week or so.  If your child is having problems with fractions/area/volume, please work at home or let me know and I will see what I can do, (even if your child is not in my math class.)

We are working on The Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression in Social Studies.  Mr. Wilfong is finishing up electricity.

Alex Mirabelli is our Kid of the Week.  She is an excellent baseball player and is learning to play the guitar.  Congratulations, Alex.

March    RADEMACHER/WAGLEY

                              WEEK IN THE NEWS   3/9/09

Specials : Mon. Music, Tues. PE, Wed. Tech, Thurs. PE , Fri. Art

The CRCT is coming up quickly.  All classes will be reviewing information.  Remember every child must pass the math and reading sections this year in order to be passed to the sixth grade.  You might want to use the online math book for extra practice.  It is a great reference and you don’t have to make up any problems!!  We are having a points contest with Mr. Wilfong’s class in AR.  Any reading is important and will help tremendously toward the CRCT.

The biography research paper is due on March 12.  Your child has been given class time to work with a partner (if he chooses) to work on the presentation portion of the report.  We have also been to the library for research time.   See my last newsletter or the packet if you have any questions or send me a note.  These reports should not be late.  This is a very important reading/writing grade.

We will be testing out of this math unit over the next week or so.  If your child is having problems with fractions/area/volume, please work at home or let me know and I will see what I can do, (even if your child is not in my math class.)

We are working on World War I and the Great Depression in Social Studies.  Mr. Wilfong is finishing up electricity.   I am going to put together a CRCT study guide for social studies.  Even though it is not a gate closer subject this year, it is still very important to pass the section.

RADEMACHER/WAGLEY     WEEK IN THE NEWS      2/23/09

 Supplies

Specials : Mon. Music, Tues. PE, Wed. Tech, Thurs. PE , Fri. Art

The biography research paper is due on March 12.  Your child has been given examples of the Title page, the introduction, and the table of contents.  Each page should be numbered.  We have also been to a bibliography writing class.  Your child has examples of using a book and a website in his binder.  I will be giving out the encyclopedia this week.  We will have some research time in the media center two days this week.

If you child has selected someone who is still with us, the early years and middle years need to be done very thoroughly.

During the presentation of the report, the child should be dressed as the biography subject and present the information as if on TV.  Many children select another child to help out and ask questions, like an interview.  Some chose to present alone telling about his “life” using props, etc.  See the packet for other information.

Specials : Tues. Special Event, Wed. Tech, Thurs. PE , Fri. Art

READING:  As we get closer to the CRCT, the more your child reads the better.  For some readers, it would be a very good idea to read with them and ask questions as they go along.  I will be assigning several read and answer practice pieces for homework.  This is very important practice.

MATH:  We have created a torch display in the fifth grade hall to show the math progress that is made on the test we discussed at conference.  We will be showing the children the item analysis of missed problems (that you should have a copy of) from our cumulative math testing.  The test will be given again at the end of the month.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Mr. Wilfong  will continue working on electricity this week.  I will be moving on to immigration and then World War I.
