MRS RADEMACHER'S FOURTH GRADE
   WEEK IN THE NEWS    November 9.2009

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 13 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog.  We are reviewing all grammar concepts and beginning a new writing unit.   The new unit is how to respond to literature in writing.  The book we are currently reading is great for a text to world comparison.    

                    

Reading:  There’s an Owl in the Shower is our current class book.  It is a great book about saving the environment and the impact that might have on jobs.      Jacket to Jacket reading is due on November 10. We are working on Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise.    

 

Math: Multiplication with multiple digits and beginning long division are on the plans for this week.  We will continue to review old concepts as well to get us ready for the CRCT.         

 

 Science/Social Studies:  I will be working on force and simple machines in science. We are going to work on Newton’s Laws of Motion and then hit simple machines.  Miss Adams is working on early exploration and those great sailors to the New World.

   Language Arts:  There is a Sort 12 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog.  We are reviewing all grammar concepts and beginning a new writing unit.      

                   

Reading:  We are finishing George’s Marvelous Medicine this week.  Jacket to Jacket reading is due on November 10.  We completed everyone’s presentation of their book report.   We got some good ideas on new books to read. There will be a Wordly Wise test over Lesson 6 on Thursday.   

 

Math: Multiplication with multiple digits and beginning long division are on the plans for this week.  We will continue to review old concepts as well to get us ready for the CRCT.          

 Science/Social Studies:  I will be working on force and simple machines in science. We have a science test on Wednesday over a little information on motion. There is information about the unit on my blog.  It may be useful to read what we are doing.  The study guide will be on my blog tonight.  Miss Adams is finishing up Native Americans.

Welcome to our new student, Desmond Gamble.  He is doing a great job and making friends.  We must say goodbye to Roy Fields and Isaiah Herron.  We will miss them very much!   

Hayden Turner, Abby Robertson, Anton Jerabek, and Luke Catalano have been selected by the class to run for Student Council.  Congratulations to all or you.  The election will be on Thursday.  We will be listening to their speeches on Thursday.

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 11 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog.  We are discussing possessive nouns and plural nouns this week. 

                    

Reading:  We are reading George’s Marvelous Medicine this week.  We are looking at setting, plot and characters.  Don’t forget the Jacket to Jacket reading.  There is not a huge amount of work to do.  Just list the number of pages read and return the sheet to me on November 10.  No late sheets will be accepted. 

Thank you for getting the book reports all in.  We will be presenting them this week.    

 

Math: We have all begun the second quarter math unit.  All classes are working on addition and subtraction with decimals. We are concentrating on multiplication with multiple digits.  Right now we are multiplying with zeros and using partial products.         

 

 Science/Social Studies:  I will be working on force and simple machines in science and Miss Adams is continuing with Native Americans.

I am very proud to announce that McKayla Brown received a second place award for her Reflections entry in literature.  Anton Jerabek received third place in photography.  Congratulations to both of you on a job well done. 

 

Three of our girls are also trying out for the Reading Bowl team.  This takes a great deal of work and a lot of reading.  Good luck ladies—Shayln Moon, Gabbi Primiano, and Hayden Turner.

Mrs. Rademacher's Week in the News                                 October 12, 2009

Thanks for the snacks for our firemen.  We took them over on Thursday afternoon.    

  Language Arts:  There is a Sort 9 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog each week.  We are going to continue with verbs.  This is a problem area especially when we get to main/helping verbs and linking verbs.  We will add irregular verbs and just continue working on identifying them in sentences.  We are finishing our goomoolooleck stories.  I am making copies of the first narrative writing we did so that you can see the product.  I will have all of them ready by next week.

 Reading:  The Magic Finger is all done.  We are going to read George’s Marvelous Medicine this week.  We are looking at setting, plot and characters.  The book report is due on October 23.  I am giving a great deal of reading time in class.  The Jacket to Jacket packets went home on Friday.  There is not a huge amount of work to do.  Just list the number of pages read and return the sheet to me on November 10.  No late sheets will be accepted.     

  Math: We are post testing this unit this coming Friday.  Our next unit is major multiplication and division.          

  Science/Social Studies:  The science test will be tomorrow over the second study guide for weather.  It is on my blog.  Miss Adams will be moving on to Native Americans and early settlement of our country.        

 Field Trip- to the Fire Safety Village is coming up.  All parents are welcome to attend. The admission is free. You may drive behind the buses.  I really appreciate how quickly you got the permission slips and lunch choice sheets back to me so quickly.

 INFO:

Connor Muzzey was our Terrific Kid of the Month.  Connor always gives his best effort, is very organized, and kind friend to everyone.  Congratulations!

 REPORT CARDS will be in your child’s boomerang this Friday.  Please return the signature card on Monday.  You may keep the actual report card.

MRS. RADEMACHER'S WEEK IN THE NEWS

Thanks to all of you sending in donations for our various things.  They are greatly appreciated.  Don’t forget about the firemen this week.  Please send in any snacks for them by Thursday.  We are going to deliver the goodies to them that afternoon.    

  

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 8 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog each week.  There will be a Wordly Wise Lesson 4 test on Wednesday.  We are going to review the types of verbs and move to linking verbs and verb tenses. We are writing a story about a fictitious character called the “GOOMOOLOOLECK” using what we know about descriptive writing.

                    

Reading:  We have finished Gooseberry and are moving on to The Magic Finger. This is a short book but a lot of fun to read. We are looking at setting, plot and characters.  The book report is due on October 24.  I am giving a great deal of reading time in class.  The AR store opened for the first time last Friday with some of our class being able to spend their bucks.  The children should really be reading at LEAST 20 minutes each night on their own.  Some children have taken very few AR tests.  They need to get busy toward their goals.  In your child’s folder today there is information about a reading program that will run for about the next month.  You complete the forms and return them to me by the deadline and you can get a free ticket to a Yellow Jacket women’s basketball game.  I hope that all of you will take part.   

 

Math: We are all working with multiplication now.  One digit times two to three digits comes first.   You will notice a little algebra in this section of math, too.      

 Science/Social Studies:  We will finish up weather over the next two weeks.  Look for at least one big test coming up.  Miss Adams is still working on economics.        

Field Trip- to the Fire Safety Village is coming up.  All parents are welcome to attend. There is no charge for you to attend. You may drive behind the buses.  Please complete the field trip pages in the folder today and return ASAP.  Thanks.

Mrs. Rademacher's Week in the News              September 27, 2009

I hope you all made it through our rain with little or better still no damage.  If you have any needs from a weather issue, please let us know.  We are trying to take in donations for Clarksdale Elementary.  They need office supply type things. 

  

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 7 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog each week.  We are going to continue to work on subjects and predicates.  I will add action verbs and main/helping verbs to the mix.  We are on week 7 in our daily grammar folder.  Test on Friday.            

We are working on descriptive writing and narratives. 

 

                    

Reading:  We are reading Gooseberry Park  in our shared reading time.  In this part of our day, we read together or with a buddy.   Our focus is on vocabulary,  understanding the details, sequencing, and inferring.  In guided reading, which I do in small groups, we are working on how to look for information as we read.  This looks like last week, huh?  Due to our difficulties last week, we are doing it all again.

 

Math: We are all working with multiplication now.  One digit times two to three digits comes first.  Also, we will be doing a great deal of relating multiplication and division.       

 

 Science/Social Studies:  We took our science data and created double bar graphs from the information.  We will be discussing the atmosphere, wind and how meteorologists note fronts and other weather patterns.

WEEK IN THE NEWS

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 6 spelling test this Thursday. You can find the spelling words on my blog each week.   The Wordly Wise test for Lesson 3 words will be on Wednesday.  We will work on simple subjects and predicates in grammar.  The grammar tests have been much better for the past two weeks.  Thanks for studying, it is showing.    

Reading:  We are reading Gooseberry Park  in our shared reading time.  In this part of our day, we read together or with a buddy.   Our focus is on vocabulary,  understanding the details, sequencing, and inferring.  In guided reading, which I do in small groups, we are working on how to look for information as we read.

Math: Most everyone is working on some sort of graphing.  We will be talking about the multiplication properties by the end of the week and multiplication starts.  Brush up on facts.      

 Science/Social Studies:  Miss Adams is plowing away on economics.  Your children will be making investment decisions VERY soon.  I am going to continue with weather for the next two weeks.  Move over Weather Channel meteorologists, here comes my class. The data collection project is due 9/24.        

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

Please let Mrs. Primiano if you can help out during the Fall Festival.  We NEED you.  I have copied her request letter on the back of this form.  She needs to know by October 20.  Thanks in advance for anything you can help with.

MRS. RADEMACHER's FOURTH GRADE              

Week in the News

September 15, 2009

Specials:  Mon.  Tech, Tues. PE, Wed. Art, Thurs. PE, Fri. Music

Language Arts:  There is a Sort 5 spelling test this Thursday.  We will work on possessive pronouns and complete subject and predicates in sentences.  We will finish up our first narrative writing piece for our portfolios.    

Reading:   We are going to finish our second chapter book All About Sam and all of the children can take an AR test on it.  We have begun checking out books from the library.  Each child has the opportunity to go to the library during our day if he/she has completed work in the classroom.  In our reading groups, we have been working on using the features of non-fiction books to help us with understanding.  We are going to move to main idea and supporting details for all types of reading.  Our next book will be a book called Gooseberry.   

  Math: Our math schedule was adjusted last week, but our class was not called for hearing and vision testing.  We are waiting to hear about a reschedule.  We will review expanded/standard notation, place value, and rounding.  We are working on writing simple expressions to help us understand word problems a little better and input/output boxes.  Multiplication is coming very quickly.  However, in just adding and subtracting, we are finding that there are many careless errors.  Regrouping is a problem in both areas.  If you have some time, please give your children some work in this area.  You can use the online math or just make up a problem yourself.  Any extra practice is great.     

  Science/Social Studies:  We finished our summary writing and drawing of the water cycle.  There is a test on Wednesday.  A study guide was given out last Friday.  We added the missing picture today. The weather project has been assigned and is due on Sept. 24.  Miss Adams began her unit on regions and economics.    

 MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

We have not been given any information about Safety Patrol yet.  A schedule will be given to me soon I hope and I will share it with you as soon as I get it.

Mrs. Rademacher's Week in the News

September 8, 2009                                                     

 

Specials:  Mon.  PE, Tues. Art, Wed. PE, Thurs. Music, Fri. Tech

 Reading:  We began taking AR tests last week and are working toward some initial goals.  I will be working with each child for the next few days getting those tweaked and finally set.  We will have a Wordly Wise test THIS Wednesday, Sept. 9.  Remember a big hint is to go over the sentences that are used as examples with each word.  There will be a spelling test on Sort 4 this Thursday.   

 Math: Due to hearing and vision testing, our math schedule had to be adjusted.  We will be keeping our homerooms on Tuesday and Wednesday.  We will still be working on rounding and estimation, along with writing mathematical expressions.    

  Science/Social Studies:  We are writing a summary of the water cycle this week to go along with a drawing we have made.  Your child has some weather information to collect over the next ten days.  The information is in the homework section of your boomerang.  Miss Adams will begin her discussions on economics in social studies.     

 Grammar/Writing:  We will always have daily grammar practice.  Your child is responsible for making any corrections to his morning work when we go over the sentences each day in class.  They are given plenty of time to get everything just right in order to study.  Right now, these sentences are used on the Friday test exactly as your child sees them in his practice folder.  I am seeing many errors on the grammar tests for these sentences.  Be sure that your child reviews these sentences and can make the corrections required.  They are told to take the folder home every Thursday night.     

 MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

Terrific Kid of the Month is McKayla Brown.  McKayla is working hard and going the extra mile to make sure her work and behavior are top notch.  Congratulations, McKayla.

WEEK IN THE NEWS

August 31, 2009

Please note:  If you notice that there is something printed on the back of weekly evaluations, I am just trying to conserve paper.  It is not homework.

 Specials :  We have a strange schedule this week with specials.  The teachers will be doing some collaborative planning.  We will have PE and Art on Monday.  Then, on Tuesday, we will not be having any specials.  The schedule will be rolling.  We will have PE on Wednesday, Music on Thursday, and Tech on Friday.  

 Reading:  We have completed Kid in a Red Jacket and have moved on to All About Sam. Both of these books are just fun to read, I use them to try and generate interest.  Our next book will be a higher-level read.  We have started working on Lesson 2 in Wordly Wise.  There will be a test NEXT Wednesday, September 9.  

                 Your child now has a spelling book.  Our test on Thursday, September 3, will be on Sort 3.  They were told to write the words in their agenda in case they forget the book.  You should find them on the right side of the agenda pages for THIS week.  If they are not there, your child did not complete his morning work assignment for last Friday.

 Math:  All classes are working on estimating and rounding.  Remember to practice addition and subtraction and MULTIPLICATION facts.  Use the online math book for extra practice.

  Science/Social Studies:  We will begin the water cycle and weather this week.  There will be a project assigned this week, so check the agenda and binder for information.  Miss Adams is working some map skills using group work.     

 Grammar/Writing:  We will always have daily grammar practice.  This week we will be working on subject and object pronouns.  We are working on an organizer for writing our personal narrative. 

 MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

 Target parents, I will always send home the work that your student missed on Monday.  You and your child can use this for information to stay current with the class.
