As a part of the guidance program at Still we visit the classrooms at least once a month to teach a lesson that fits into the classroom guidance standards for that grade. We try to make our lessons something meaningful for each student and something that will leave a lasting impression.
September:
Kindergarten- Friendship- What kind of friend are you?
1st- Friendship- What kinds of friend are you?
2nd- Helpful/Hurtful Friendship- We will discuss things that would be helpful to a friendship and things that would hurt a friendship.
3rd- Friendship Promise- We will discuss ways to be a good friend and make a friendship promise for the year.
4th- Respect- We will discuss what is means to show respect. To your parents? Teachers? Friends? Yourself? We will discuss the difference between respectful and respectable. You have to be respectful in order to be respectable! The students will write a few ways they can work on showing respect.

2nd- Differences- We will discuss how everyone is different. No one is EXACTLY the same as someone else. We all have things in common and things that make us different but no two people are EXACTLY the same. We will discuss feelings of jealousy you may have towards someone else and the importance of appreciating who you are and what you have to offer.
3rd- Responsibility- We will discuss what it means to be responsible and what responsibilities they have as 3rd graders.
4th- Differences- We will discuss how everyone is different. No one is EXACTLY the same as someone else. The students will have the opportunity to create a Venn Diagram with a partner to show ways they are different as well as ways they are the same. Theme: Our Differences Make Us Special.

Kindergarten- The students will learn the importance of being thankful for the people who provide for you and help you be successful
1st- The students will learn the importance of being thankful for the people who provide for you and help you be successful
2nd- Read the story, Enemy Pie. Discuss how the boy in the story turned his worst enemy into a friend by following the only rule for enemy pie- spending the day with your enemy and being nice to him!!
3rd- Introduce Mrs. Ruby and her class. Mrs. Ruby is teaching her class how words are not magical. Just because someone says something about you doesn't make it true unless you believe it. You should always have a watchdog by your side to keep out the bad things and let in the good.
4th- Students learn about self-control through a few demonstrations. They will also make decisions concerning self-control when given a scenario.
5th- The students will learn the importance of being thankful for the people who provide for you and help you be successful.
December:
Kindergarten- The students will learn the value of giving gifts from the heart that don't cost money (hugs, helping others, good manners, spending time, etc.)

2nd- The students learn about safety tips and take home an information letter to share with their parents.
3rd- Read the story, How Santa Got His Job. Discuss the skills and interests that led Santa through many jobs before finally finding the right one. The students will list skills and interests that they have.
4th- The students will learn the importance of listening and following directions when they play a whole group game that depends on each person doing their part.
5th- The students will learn the value of giving gifts from the heart that don't cost money (hugs, helping others, good manners, spending time, etc.)
